Hearing Aids
Hearing Aids

We offer a variety of digital hearing aid brands and models to fit each patient’s needs and budget: Oticon (including the very tiny and very stylish Agil featured above), Lyric, GN Resound, Starkey, Siemens, Sonic Innovations, MicroTech, Phonak and Unitron.

Assistive Listening Devices
Assistive Listening Devices

We have helped hundreds of our patients take advantage of a statewide assistance program. For individuals with a hearing loss, the state will provide a free amplified telephone. Other assistive listening devices include infrared systems or looping technology for television sets; bedside clocks and wrist watches that vibrate instead of beep; and alerting devices that flash lights when coupled to a doorbell, baby monitor or telephone ringer.

Hearing Loss Test
Hearing Loss Test

* Do people seem to mumble or speak in a softer voice    than they used to?
* Do you feel tired or irritable after a long conversation?
* Do you sometimes miss key words in a sentence, or    frequently need to ask people to repeat themselves?
* When you are in a group or a crowded restaurant, do you    have difficulty following the conversation?
* When you are socializing with other people, does    background noise bother you?
* Do you often need to turn up the volume on your TV or    radio?
* Do you have difficulty hearing the doorbell or telephone    ring?
* Is carrying on a telephone conversation difficult?
* Has someone close to you mentioned that you might have    a problem with your hearing?

If you answered “yes” to one or more of the questions, please call us to assess your hearing. Only a thorough otoscopic and hearing exam can determine if your hearing difficulties are due to cerumen (ear wax), which we can remove in the office, or an underlying medical problem, which can be treated. Once these possibilities are ruled out, hearing loss can be improved by the appropriate hearing device.

Hearing Loss
Hearing Loss

Half the people over the age of 55 have trouble understanding speech in noise. That means many people struggle to hear in common and important situations — meeting a client in a restaurant, understanding a store clerk, or socializing with friends and family at a party. Correcting even a mild hearing loss enhances your connection to the world around you and gives you back your “edge.”

Hearing rehabilitation is not something that is done for you or to you by your audiologist: It requires your active participation, practice and perseverance. It is not an event, but rather a process with your audiologist as your guide. The fitting of hearing aids is only the beginning. The greatest success comes when you, your family and friends understand your hearing loss and what they can do to help you succeed. Because a hearing impairment affects communication with your family and friends, you are encouraged to bring someone close to you along for your visits with us.

Balance
Balance

There are six little canals in the inner ear (three canals on each side) that give our brain most of the information about where we are in space and how we or our surroundings are moving.

The older you are the more likely Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) is the cause of the balance problem. The symptoms of BPPV include “dizziness” or vertigo, off-balanced sensation, lightheadedness, nausea, vomiting and blurred vision. Symptoms are almost always caused by a change in head position with respect to gravity. Some common problematic motions include tipping the head back to look up, getting out of bed, or rolling over in bed.
