There are three different classifications of drinking and driving offenses. These are all separate charges. A driver can be charged with one, two or all three. A person charged and convicted of any one of the offenses below is guilty of a Class I misdemeanor.
First, it is unlawful to drive or be in control of a motor vehicle, while under the influence of intoxicating liquor, drug, vapor, or any combination thereof, and impaired to the slightest degree.
Second, it is unlawful to drive or be in control of a motor vehicle with a BAC (blood alcohol concentration) of .08% or more within two hours of driving.
Third, it is unlawful to drive or be in control of a motor vehicle with a BAC (blood alcohol concentration) of .15 % or more within 2 hours of driving.
Ms. Riisa Petersen joined the Law Office of Thomas Wilson in September 2007. Riisa lives for fighting for clients in the courtroom. For her, the best feeling in the world comes from winning a case for someone and seeing the smile on their face and tears in their eyes. Riisa spends her spare time playing rugby on the Tucson Women's Rugby Team, Tucson Lightning. She also dedicates a large amount of time to working with the non-profit agency, Cold Wet Noses, which places dogs in loving permanent homes who are about to be euthanized at the pound. She was born and raised in El Centro, California.

Ms. Petersen worked as a prosecutor in 2006-2007 in Pima County prosecuting DUIs. She has done well over one hundred trials.

Mr. Ronald J. Washington, Jr. joined The Law Office of Thomas Wilson in January of 2007. Before Ron joined the firm, he was a DUI prosecutor at Tucson City Court. Ron thrives on being in the courtroom and finds immense satisfaction in being an advocate for those who might be less knowledgeable about criminal law in Arizona. He was born and raised in Dallas, Texas.
Special Expertise:
Mr. Washington has successfully defended hundreds of DUI cases. He worked as a Tucson City Prosecutor from 2004 to 2006, prosecuting majority DUIs. From 2006 to early 2007, Mr. Washington was an associate plaintiff's attorney with Doug Zanes & Associates, PLLC. Mr. Washington attended the 2005 DUI Detection Workshop and HGN (Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus) program held at the Tucson Police Academy in Tucson, Arizona, and since then has attended numerous DUI workshops and seminars.
