About Habitat Homes
About Habitat Homes

Habitat for Humanity’s goal is to build safe, decent, affordable, quality houses for people in need. We rely on donations of money, land, material, and time to construct each home.

Habitat Tucson builds free standing homes and town-house style homes where two units share a wall.

While Habitat Tucson has constructed 1-bedroom to 4-bedroom homes, a standard Habitat house has three bedrooms, one and three-quarters baths and about 1,200 square feet. Refrigerators and stoves are provided in each home by Whirlpool through a national partnership. All homes are electric, not gas, and meet standards for Tucson Electric Power’s “TEP Guarantee” program.

Habitat Tucson is making plans to construct both 2-story homes as well as multi-story, attached condominums. We are also evolving our commitment to sustainable design and greenbuilding, including passive and active solar design, high R-value design, greywater plumbing, and adherence to such community standards as Pima County’s green program.

At Habitat, we know that a safe and decent home can change everything for a family. Children feel free to bring friends home to play, their grades improve and the opportunity for college becomes a reality. Instead of worrying about housing, families begin to consider college education for their children, employment training for themselves, and have time to volunteer in their neighborhood organizations. Habitat homeowners become taxpaying neighbors who value their homes and their neighborhoods.

“To someone who’s never had a home of their own before, a key is precious metal. It opens more than just a door; it opens up a whole new way of life. That’s why Habitat for Humanity is so close to my heart. Everyone deserves a decent, affordable home, and together we can make that happen,” Reba McEntire, singer.
